The 2013 Marlborough Running Club Championship

The 2013 club championship adopted a similar format to that used by several other local clubs and awards prizes in two categories: best male and best female.

There are a range of distances and type of event, and all results are age adjusted using the World Association of Veteran Athletics (WAVA) age-grading standards. This ensured that in theory at least, the best overall performances will win (click here to use the WAVA Age Grading Calculator).

2013 Marlborough Running Club Championship Rules

The Club Championship will cover the calendar year and will be open to all fully paid up members.Only races completed while a paid up member will be eligible (so races run before joining MRC, or when membership subs were unpaid, will not count).
There are 15 nominated events/categories, from which each member’s best 6 results from at least 4 different categories will count. Members will score up to 20 points for each event (best 10 to count), as follows:
For completing the event: 10 points.
For performance: up to 10 points - ie, members’ results will be age adjusted and the best male and best female will each score 10 points, second place 9 points, etc, down to 1 point for 10th position.
In the case of a tie, final Championship positions will be decided on the basis of those events in which the tied runners both competed; if still a tie, the member with the most/highest finish position(s) will prevail.
We may not know what races have been entered, particularly in the standard distance categories where each member’s single best result will count; therefore members who want to take part in the Championship will be required to: register for the series, and notify what events they complete, and confirm their results (particularly their best results in the standard distance categories).
Registration can be at any time during the year (but Championship updates will be published from time to time and will only include those who have registered).
Any disputes will be settled by the organiser whose decision will be final.
Additional Note: The Championship includes 8 specific multi-terrain events and 4 standard distances (ie, marathon, half marathon, 10Km and 5Km). To encourage everyone to participate in some road races, the original intention had been that only road races would count in the 4 standard distance categories. However, after further consideration it has been decided to allow any event that complies with the general requirements: ie, that is the correct distance, with a measured course, accurate timing and published results.
Additional rules as follows:

You must have entered the Championship before events will count (allowed 1 retrospective race).
Best 6 results are counted towards the points total.
Age-adjusted winner scored 20 points per event, but all others scored points relative to the winner's time (instead of scoring 20, 19, 18, etc for finish positions).
